How to Post

Starting a Post

 1.  Title your post.
 2.  Edit the permalink to something more user-friendly if desired. Anything in the white box is editable.
 3.  Enter your text into the main editing window. The editing and formatting tool is a WYSIWYG editor and will be similar to those of other blogging and word processing programs.
a. Add media (links, images, files and embeded video) as desired.
b. Warning: You must ensure that you have permission to use any images, files or video and that material is properly credited. You will be held responsible for any fees incurred for copyright images used without proper permission. Resources for copyright-free images include: Creative Commons, Pixabay, Google Images labeled for reuse (click "tools" and "usage rights). If necessary, approach cartoonists directly to get permission to use their artwork. Fees are sometimes waived for scholarly use with proper citation.
c.Tag your post with relevant tags at the bottom of the body of the post. Just type # and keyword. A pre-populated list of tags will load. This will allow widgets across the site to pull in your post.

Configuring Display via RSS

 4.   Enter metadata by clicking on "Show" next to Search Engine Optimization.
a. These fields are optional but dictate how post display on third-party platforms (Facebook Twitter, etc...).
b. Featured images are those that represent the post when being pulled into RSS feeds.
c. Canonical URLs are those that search engines will index and rank. There may be several URLs for multiple versions of the same blog post. The canonical url (usually the original) is the one search engines will use to rank your post. You can past the permalink above into this field.
d. For more information on how meta data works, click on the "Meta tag format explanation" link at the bottom of the section.

Establishing Audience

 5.  Control who sees your post and how they can interact.
a. Associate your post with a specific community or not. The default setting is Nothing Selected. For widest distribution, select AIC Member Community.
b. Limit who can read your blog post. The default is Public, which means any visitor to the site can read the post. You can also limit viewing to anyone with a community login or only AIC members (“CONSERVATIONUS Members”).
c. Permit commenting or not on a post.

Publishing Your Post

 6.  Click Publish to make your post go live intermediately online, or Save for Later to edit further. You can access drafted posts in My Drafts.
